Corporate Philosophy

Kodama Jouzou LLC is located in the city of Nichinan in the Miyazaki Prefecture, exactly within the Obi district, known as the “Little Kyoto of Kyushu”. The foundation of the winery is assumed to date back to 1818. In April 2001, the current General Manager, Kazuo Kanemaru, took over Kodama Jouzou. Originally, he ran another family-owned company that had existed for five generations for the production of Sake, Shochu and soy sauce. When he began the collaboration with a large producer, he decided to close his family company. At the beginning of the century, Kazuo decided to make a change in his career by taking over the Kodama Jouzou destined to close at the time, together with his son, Junpei Kanemaru, the current Toji, master cellarman. He studied in the Department of Biochemistry of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Agriculture in Tokyo and after graduating he worked in different wineries and distilleries, in order to deepen the knowledge of the production processes and improve the distillation techniques of sake and Shochu . With the continuation of two historic distilleries, and with the slogan of our cellar “let it ferment with sincerity”, we want to bring Japanese culture to everyone as well as Shochu, the national distillate.
